Activities Helping ADD

Hello Again. I have a general question. I have heard a few interviews where Michael Phelps stated that he had ADHD and that the swimming helped him focus. My daughter has ADD inattentive type, but she also has slight issues with her fine motor skills. One of the teachers suggested putting her in some kind of activity to help her with the fine motor skills and focus. I thought dance but there is a gymnastics class right down the street from my house. I was hoping that the fact that she will have to focus more overall will help both in her fine motor and her inattentive part.

Any thoughts? Has anyone had success with something like this?

Activities for ADD Kids

Hello wglover:

We've heard a lot of success stories about ADHD children who experience boosted self esteem and focus through martial arts like karate and tae kwon do. Many ADD kids do better in individual sports like this, but regardless of the sport here are some great tips for helping them succeed in and enjoy physical activities.

If you haven't seen it already, you might enjoy reading our ADDitude interview with Michael Phelps' mother.

I hope this helps!
