Waiting on an ADHD Doctor

My 5 year old has shown symptoms of adhd, however the doctor is dragging her feet on evaluating him. But I have a question........Do children with ADHD often say things that are inappropriate? and spontaneous? he seems to have all the other symptoms for adhd, but my doctor kinda ignores me when i bring up symptoms and tells me to wait for the apptment. thank you for response.

waiting on a doctor

Some kids with ADHD may speak out inappropriately, but not all since there are different types of ADHD. It would not be only symptom to use as a diagnosis. As my son got older, he was better at knowing what was inappropriate. You have to explain it and teach it to them. If you want to take a look at what should be looked at for diagnosis, go to www.caddra.ca and see the doctor checklist information they have there. There are many conditions with similar symptoms as ADHD. Review Auditory Processing Disorder, Sensory Integration Disorder, Thyroid conditions, fetal alcohol syndrome, sleep apnea...even trauma or learning disabilities may cause a child to not pay attention or act out. Some times food sensitivities or additives can make a child hyperactive as it did with my son. The diagnosis should be a long process and not done in an hour. Many things need to be looked at. So if your doctor is not rushing to diagnosis, that could be a good thing...as now you can look into the other possibilities and make sure a thorough diagnosis is done.

Just a thought.

Not to speak out of turn, but have you considered the possibility of turrets?

Outbursts

Hello Mom of 2, Inappropriate outbursts are certainly not uncommon for children with ADHD.

While you are waiting for a diagnosis, you may want to check out these articles about behavior in ADHD children for advice on how to handle these outbursts.
