Next year we have decided to put our 11 year old (May birthday) 6th grader into a private school. Academically he is probably above grade level but socially he is immature and although tall physically he is behind some athletically. At this school they open 15 slots in 6th grade so he would go in with a whole group of new kids. If he goes in as a 7th grader I am afraid that he'll have trouble breaking into the groups. Is their an advantage to him being one of the oldest or is this going to be bad for his self esteem??
