So I Have ADD and...

So I have ADD and I never knew there were other problems that went along with it. Like people just told me I was lazy because a lot of the time I'm unmotivated and unorganized or whatever and that could be the case but i was reading somewhere that this kind of stuff kind of goes along with add (which i never knew) i just always accepted the fact that i was lazy but I couldnt ever find any ways to keep me from getting that way because if I did better for a little bit eventually I'd go back to how I was before. And like I dont know. I always kinda thought that I got way too depressed too easily but apparently that goes along with add too. well basically I'm just here to tell whoever made this site thanks because it really helped me understand why I am how I am. Because even though its hereditary my parents were never diagnosed with it and i dont know it just seems like no one really understands how I feel sometimes and its just good to know theres other people out there who feel the same way and that I'm not crazy. lol.

also does anyone out there know how to handle frustration and anger better? I have ways but they just arent too healthy and dont really solve the problem and I usually end up taking it out on someone who doesnt deserve it. It just been something I've been hoping to find a resolution to on here but havent found yet. any advice welcome. thanks =]

love, krista

Mindful awareness

I found mindfulness helped me understand myself better so that I can have more control over my behaviour. There are good books out there.

Check out Jon Kabat-Zinn, he's written good books on Mindfulness as a way to treat anxiety, depression, pain, illness etc.. A good book it "Living the Full Catastrophe...." try a google search.

I used to also be fat and unhealthy and then I decided to start working out a few years ago and eating well and I found that it made a HUGE difference in my motivation! It was REALLY difficult at first, but the more I realized the benefits it was clear that I needed exercise to help balance my brain chemistry.

Welcome!

Hello dancergirl:

Welcome to the ADDitude forums - I'm so glad you found us and that you've found the site helpful. Here are some articles I would recommend reading about anger-management techniques for ADD adults:

7 Ways to Reduce Stress: Calming Techniques for ADHD Adults

Calming Techniques for Adults with ADHD

Take a Deep Breath: Stress Less with Adult ADHD

Also, here is our new Guide for ADHD Women

I hope this helps!
