My son was diagnosed when he was 2yrs old with adhd and now he's 10. He's has been doing ok up until this point in school but lately I have been getting calls from his school and sylvan learning center were he is recieving tutoring saying he not focusing and he cannot complete assignments. He in ESE 1 or 2 hours a day and the rest of the time he is in his regular class. The school states he do not need to be in the program full time because he his capable of learning but sometimes it's difficult to get it out of him. He's been in the program for 2 years and have been doing good so far but now they are still saying he can not maintain his focus to do good in school and he is failing the test that he needs to pass to move on to the next level. Homework is a big struggle for me and him. Sometimes I cry in the bathroom because I do not know how to help him. We spend 4 to 5 hours on homework some nights and it's hard. I do not want him on medication because I am scared it may do him the same way it did his father. It made him crazy once he stopped taking it. What kind of medications are safe and do he really need it even though he is not having behavior problems? He just can not focus like he should. What should I do because I want him to be successful in school but I do not want medication to take over his life.
