How About an ADHD Coach?
Unlike therapy, which is about insight, coaching addresses the behavioral goals of an individual (time management, organization, motivation, etc.) As a PhD in psychology, AND coach, I high believe in the utility of coaching.
One word of caution though. Unfortunately, in my opinion, there are many un- or under-qualified people out there calling themselves ADHD coaches who have no mental health background, which I think is dangerous. ADHD is, after all, a mental health disorder. Also, most of the current evidence for its validity is anecdotal. Therefore, my current professional objective is to separate ADHD coaching from all the other types of coaching (executive, financial...fashion?!). I am also in the process of authoring an evidence based book on coaching from my first hand research.
So... when looking in to getting a coach, make sure you get recommendations, check credentials, and check them out yourself!
