Help with ADHD Son's Homework

My 11-y.o. son won't do his homework. He is ADHD/ODD. I have a flexible schedule and when I'm on nights I don't see my son. Therefore can't get it done. My husband works third shift and goes to school full-time during the day and is no help whatsoever. My son leaves his homework at school. Because they have no planner, he doesn't always bring home a homework sheet. When asked he says, I did it at school, which usually means he did it the next day or the day it was due and of course, it is sloppy and not good. On the days that we don't have homework issues, he's getting suspended for disrespectful behavior. The teacher refuses to email me even after I have provided my email. Last year, I was told that it was not the teacher's job to email me. It was the responsibility of the student to write down the information. When I pointed out that they had removed me from the parent/teacher loop by refusing to do this, the teachers changed their mind and decided to have Mitchell write in his homework folder and they would initial it. The school is doing more this year then they have before but I want to meet them halfway but they wait until the next day to contact me and by then, it's too late.

Help with homework

I feel your pain. My son is 10 years old and does not stay on task - an homework is getting more voluminous as the years go by!.

Try implementing some of the interventions found in the book 'Homework Without Tears,' by Lee Canter. You can get it online through amazon.

My 11 yo is also having homework issues. He "lost" his major book report assignment handout and all the work 3 times at least, and misplaced ALL the work frequently. I am very worried that he will fail the 5th grade. We did get it done finally. I keep reminding myself of the parents mantra "This too shall pass."
