Vyvanse

Please post comments about your experience treating your child's ADHD symptoms with Vyanse... Did you notice any side effects? What dosage worked best? Would you recommend it?

about vyvanse

I already put something up about it so I'll make it short: It worked great at first but it brought out a mood disorder in My 8 yr old. She was not first checked for susceptibility. We have other family with mood disorders. So the phyciatrist told us that it brought it out and we are trying a med to stabilize her mood before we reintroduce the vyvanse. The only problem we had was that witch we could not control and when she was coming off of it her mood was bad and she was tired, lethargic and vomiting.

Great Results

I have had absolutely wonderful results with Vyvanse for my both of my twin sons, as has one of my closest friends with her son. It lasts 13 hours, so there is no "crash" right about homework time, and there have been no personality changes or appetite suppression for either boy. On of my son's personality was awful on Strattera, and I feel like he's back now. I think every drug is different for every kid, however. I had to try a few before I found the one that works for attention and doesn't have the personality or appetite side affects. I have found it's best to work with your doctor and let him now immediately if you see dramatic changes in your child. Good luck................

Vyvanse Tics and Mood Disorders

We are having our 9 yr old son taken off of Vyvanse. He was put on it in May and has progressively gotten worse. His tics are so bad that he looks like he has MS or MD. He can't control his movements or his moods. He has a mood disorder, ADHD and ODD and is also on Geodon, Tenex, and Imipramine(for bed wetting). I don't know why they put him on the Vyvanse considering its history with problems in children with mood disorders. I am hoping that the Geodon will work for him without the need for any other ADHD meds. He has been on several in the past including, Adderall, Concerta (which I thought worked well but the dr didn't), and Daytrana (the patches gave him hives). I am at my wits end. We already have him in a behavioral treatment center and they have been trying to find a medication to help but he has just gotten worse.

Vyvanse - Bad Results

Our 8yr old son has been on several stimulant medications for his ADHD over the course of the past 2 years. We started with Concerta, but he started metabolizing it too fast so it wore off around noon. We couldn't increase the dosage due to appetite suppression and he also had bad rebound effect. Tried Focalin XR for a short amount of time (probably not long enough nor at a high enough dosage) when the pediatrician suggested Vyvanse. He was on it about 3 months. At first it worked great, but then we really started seeing personality changes that were not our son. He become completely defiant, angry, agressive and then started talking about wanting to kill himself and us. We took him off Vyvanse after Christmas and these things disappeared and we got our happy, loving boy back. Our counselor told us she had another boy on Vyvanse who was hospitalized as he tried to commit suicide, so I would definitely be cautious with regards to using this as an option for children.
