Vyvanse - Bad Results
Our 8yr old son has been on several stimulant medications for his ADHD over the course of the past 2 years. We started with Concerta, but he started metabolizing it too fast so it wore off around noon. We couldn't increase the dosage due to appetite suppression and he also had bad rebound effect. Tried Focalin XR for a short amount of time (probably not long enough nor at a high enough dosage) when the pediatrician suggested Vyvanse. He was on it about 3 months. At first it worked great, but then we really started seeing personality changes that were not our son. He become completely defiant, angry, agressive and then started talking about wanting to kill himself and us. We took him off Vyvanse after Christmas and these things disappeared and we got our happy, loving boy back. Our counselor told us she had another boy on Vyvanse who was hospitalized as he tried to commit suicide, so I would definitely be cautious with regards to using this as an option for children.
