QEEG and brain waves
Hi Sam's Mom,
I wouldn't spend the money. Although the tests are interesting, they are not able to diagnose ADHD. Perhaps in the future we will be able to use some of these tests like PET scans and SPECT scans, etc but as to date, there is no scientific research to back up their use for diagnostic purposes.
You mentioned that you didn't agree with the doctor's conclusion regarding whether or not your daughter has ADHD. Do you believe she does or doesn't have it? If you believe she has it and the doctor disagrees, I might be able to give you some suggestions that could help with the diagnosis. If you are female, inattentive only rather than hyperactive, or intelligent, many times these individuals get passed over for diagnosis. If that is the case I can help you.
I was only recently diagnosed and I am 48 yrs. old. I am female, inattentive, intelligent and I compensated well for my deficiencies (I had generalized anxiety as well and that actually helped my ADHD because worrying enables someone to focus on what they are worrying about and I worried about not doing well in school). Medication has made a huge difference for me and I'm sad that I missed out for so many years. I could have accomplished so much more, in line with my actual intelligence.
I also responded to your other question.
Elaine
