When Is the Medication Working?
Hello, I am new to the site and am looking for some help. My 7yo daughter was diagnosed with ADHD in kindergarten. Her first grade teacher felt that she did not have any problems so we chose not to treat her last year. There was a major change in schools this year and now we have a teacher telling us that she is having major problems with her. At the beginning of the year she was not able to focus on her work, sucking on her fingers during class, taking 2 hours to finish homework, poor handwriting, and general behavior problems. We started her on 5mg of focalin and saw slight improvement at home but the teacher stated very little change in the classroom. After a month on the meds we changed her dose to 10mg. The MD was timid about increasing her dosage at that time. At our parent/teacher conference we were told that she would have better grades if she applied herself and that she is defiant. Homework is still a chore for me, taking 30mins with me hovering and reminding her to pay attention. I will be calling the MD tomorrow to increase the dose but my question is am I going to have an a-ha moment that will tell me that the medication is working?
