Gifts for ADHD Kids

I am a reporter, and am looking for ideas on gifts for kids ages 5-12 who have ADHD. Also, feel free to warn me of about ones to stay away from. Thanks! Tina Adler tmadler2@verizon.net 301-229-4818

Toys for ADHD

My son is 8 and loves his Transformers ever since he was about 5. Not only my son but I can remember back when my nephew was young who also had ADHD who also loved the same similar type of toy. I think these kids like to work with their hands and are very good at figuring things out. My son literally has a box full of Transformers and can put them all together rather quickly, a lot faster than any adult I know, without reading the directions. The level of difficulty will be posted on the box so there are many choices. Hope this helped!

My grandson loves board games that he can play w/his little sister as well as adults. Sorry! is a good one, or others that feature their strengths (Scrabble for Juniors). He also likes Game Boy Advance games like Mario & Sonic the Hedgehog, tho it's often a struggle to get him to put the device down so there needs 2B a time limit set.

Am looking for ways to help him w/his multiplication tables. Any ideas out there? Do flash cards work with these kids??

Trampoline?

For Christmas I am buying my son a smallish indoor trampoline. It has 3 games to play on it (counting, and a couple others) and I expect it will get used daily, of not hourly.

He is five, and not yet diagnosed, yet has an appointment for diagnosis tomorrow morning.

I am also buying playdoh and paint for his stocking!

I second the transformers. My little guy has had those and power ranger megazords (like transformers in a way- you put them together) for 2 years. He loves them at first, and actually concentrates on them, which doesn't usually happen with toys, but loses interest after a week or two. Legos are a big hit because of the creative and "making-it work" aspect, as well.

Madagascar 2 has an awesome soundtrack- we boogie to it a lot.

Best of luck!

Legos and tinker toys are my son's favorite. He is 7. The legos are not the structured kits but a box of assorted pieces (same with the tinker toys) were he can build what he wants and not follow pre printed plans which he gets bored with before the project is done. Also while I know video games are frequently frowned upon he loves the Legos Batman and Pokemon Ranger for his Nintendo DS.
