So Many Supplements Out There...

Hi all, I'm a 50 year old man recently diagnosed and looking for advice on supplements. I've been taking fish oil and Ginkgo and recently started taking Co-Q10, Phosphatidylserine and Dmae with some wonderful results. I did not like taking Adderall which is why I'm looking into alternatives. I've also started reading up on Nadh, Cdp-Choline and Acetyl-L-Carnitine but haven't tried any of them yet. Does anyone have any experience with these or any combinations of them? If so, I would love some advice on their use and efficacy.

Alternative ADHD Treatments

Hi James:

It sounds like you already know more than I do about supplements, but I thought you might want to download ADDitude's free guide to Alternative ADHD Treatments, which goes into depth about diet, nutrition, exercise, supplements, memory training, etc.

Good luck! And let us know what you learn...

A good source of information

Hi All, Here's a good website to check out for info on the various supplements out there (www.raysahelian.com ). The homepage lists all the supplements I mentioned and gives some extensive reading for each. Also, Wikipedia can be extremely informative. In the coming weeks I'll write more about what my experiences have been with them. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any help in this regard from the medical community and my approach to these have been very cautious. I really struggle at times with lethargy and poor focus and so far my experience has been quite positive with an increase in mental energy and better concentration with the ones I listed. I would love to hear from other's and their experiences as well. Bear in mind if you do decide to try any of them, I would recommend taking as early in the morning as possible to avoid insomnia.

Grapeseed Extract & DMAE

So I'd seen a letter to a medical journal that mentioned some people having good results with grapeseed extract, so I tried that for about a month and NADA.

Right now I'm trying DMAE, and so far nothing, but it's only been a couple days.

I also take a multivitamin, calcium, vitamin c, and Nature Made's Triple Omega (Omegas 3 6 and 9).

I'll keep you posted how I fare with the DMAE.

Kaiti

SO MANY SUPPLEMENTS OUT THERE....

My son has had success with Elevate from BioSource Naturals. It has DMAE, minerals, Ginkgo, amino acids, B vitamins and grape seed extract. It has been pretty effective. I bought it on Amazon.com, http://www.amazon.com/Supplement-Learning-Contains-Vitamins-Guaranteed/dp/B001BGJGQG

Learner's Edge

I take Learner's Edge with great success! It's major ingredient is L-Carnatine and has others, like DMAE, that are mentioned in this thread. I take 6 capsules a day, 3 at breakast and 3 at lunch. I am 55. It was prescribed by my Naturopath Doctor, who I went to, seeking am alternative to anti-depressants and stimulants. There were 3 immediate improvements when it "kicked in". The constant brain chatter stopped. The panic over having multiple tasks stopped. And my note taking improved 100 fold. I started a new job. The work I do is in phases. I was trained on the 1st phase before Learner's Edge. My notes were scribbles all over the paper. The trainer kept looking over my shoulder frowning. When she taught me the 2nd and 3rd phases my notes became numbered and lettered points. The trainer kept smiling and saying she though I got it. When I needed to refer to this 2nd set of notes, I was amazed at how clear they were.

supplements

I have had many clients who have had good results from Acetyl-L-Carnitine. You might also be interested in ADD-care. The homeopathic ingrediant is the best supplement out there for ADD and was demonstrated by SPECT scans to do as well as Adderall and no other supplement comes close to that, not even the excellent ones you mentioned.

reply to SO Many supplements...

Jeff,

what is the ingredient list for the Add-Care, it just mentions Gaba and Tyrosine, is that all thats in it? do they ever send out samples for a person to try. 50.00 is alot for me right now, (just lost a job of 17 years due to the economy) I have a whole drawer full of supplements, none of which ever did much for me. It may be my lack of knowledge of how to take them I dont know.
