hair twirling, etc.
My teenage daughter does it. I sometimes do it until I catch myself and make an effort to stop - I think I started when I was her age. My daughter takes Adderall as well, but in her case it didn't seem to make the hair-twirling worse. We ADDers find comfort in repetitive (soothing) motions, as they help us sit still and behave appropriately (on the outside) when we long to jump up and run out the door screaming (on the inside). Once I saw an article about kids who like the feeling of stroking cordouroy or other soft material, and the author suggested that moms could sew it into the pockets of their jackets so they could calm themselves without attracting attention. There's at least one web site which offers ready-made "soothing" products - maybe you and your daughter could find an acceptable substitute for the hair-twirling. It's a difficult habit to break, but even a nice "worry stone" in her pocket could help improve the appearance of her hair.
