Adderall versus Vyvanse

I have taken Adderall XR since the early 90's (20 mg twice daily) and have been forced to switch to Vyvanse because Shire has removed Adderall from its patience assistance program leaving their new drug, Vyvanse, as my only option. I am interested in hearing from other adult patients that have made the switch that I have. Adderall always worked for me and I am not feeling as well with Vyvanse.

Adderall vs. Vyvanse

To make a long story short :+}...I'm now on a generic of Adderall and I feel like a happy butterfly. Not a good thing for me. I'm 61 and just going back to school after 39 years. I need the focus - the concentration. I got it on Vyvanse, but with 50mg, it was not enough AND, it cost me $145 per month - too expensive. In an effort to cut costs, my doctor prescribed amphetamine salts 10 mg to be taken 3 times a day. I can't seem to concentrate - my mind is going in a lot of directions. Unfortunately, my doctor will tell me I have not given the drug a chance. When you have an exam every day, youcan't afford the time to wait. I like Vyvanse, but I seemed to need much more than was prescribed after one month on the medication.

Adderall vs Vyvanse

Hi all, I am new to these boards but have had ADD since I was a kid (I am now 37). Unfortunately my 8 year old has it as well. I just wanted to say that I am, if this is even possible, "in love" with Vyvanse. I absolutely do not like Adderall in any form - to me my body adjusts to it to quickly and the side effects are AWFUL - I am a total btch to put it nicely - ha. With Vyvanse I take 2 70mg a day and I am perfect, no side effects, can eat no problem (which I did have to get used to it but have NO issues now) and my concentration and energy levels are awesome. I have to also add I am in recovery - I got addicted to Hydrocodone before I realized I could take ADD medication; the Hydrocodone seemed to feel the areas of my brain that just didn't :"work" right. Anyway my point to saying I am in recovery is that with Vyvanse the potential for abuse (at least to me) is extremely low. Apparently it's chemically bound different than Adderall so where you can just keep taking Adderall with Vyvanse it just doesn't do anything over 140mg (this is not fact, just my research and how it affects me).

The only down side is that that Shire the company who makes both Adderall and Vyvanse will only release it in a one a day form so my insurance only covers 30 days worth and I have to pay $144.00 for the other 30. I have called Shire and gone round and round with them that everyone is different - they tell me to just take Adderall for the breakthrough (which to me totally sounds like they are pushing Adderrall for money reasons not to be helpful! But I digress), anyway to make a longer story even longer - ha ha, I have tried them all and I honestly don't think I would survive if it weren't for Vyvanse (and I mean that as dramatically as it sounds - ha).

Vyvanse has a prescription drug plan

Hey I read the post about not being able to afford Vyvanse (I too had the same problem), here is a link to their Prescription Drug Plan where based off income you can get the prescription for like $20 a month (or something like that) without insurance.
