Looking for a Good Psychiatrist

I'm trying to find a new psychiatrist, but I'm kinda skeptical after the last one I had. I definitely don't want to waste another four months just to find out that my psych. has a Jekyll and Hyde personality. And refuses to try anything but Strattera.

I'd like to find one somebody else has had a positive experience with, someone who is open minded and willing to listen, not just tell me that strattera is my only option that I can either live with the side effects and continue taking it or come off of it and have no ADHD med.

Kingsport Tn, Johnson City Tn, Morristown Tn, Lexington Ky, or any of the surrounding areas.

I have checked several resources, and most list psychs. in the above areas, but there aren't any reviews listed for them. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Finding a psychiatrist

You might try checking out www.chadd.org as they sometimes have a listing of ADHD specialists in different areas of the country. You also might luck out and find a support group in your area. If you happen to know another adult with ADD who is successfully treated, ask who they use. Ask your doctor for references to someone knowledgeable with adult ADHD and if you have any friends who are nurses, they may know of someone.

If you were in Florida I'd have the perfect doctor but I don't know any doctors in Tennessee or Kentucky.

Keep trying! Good luck!

Elaine

Support group in Lexington, KY

Hi, it's me again. I just looked up the CHADD website and found a support group that meets in Lexington, KY (at Tates Creek Christian Church). There is a phone number listed so you could call and they may be able to give you the name of some psychiatrists or doctors in the area who treat ADHD. The name of the Local Coordinator is Lisa Baradaran and the number listed is 1-859-967-9508.

Good luck!!

Thank You

You know, I never thought about calling a support group leader to find out about a psychiatrist in the area. DUH! Thank you so much for the suggestion, I'll definately do that. Have a great day all.

Re: Looking for a good Psychiatrist

As a school social worker, I make it my business to know who the good psychiatrists are in my area. So, I would call your local elementary (or middle or high school) and ask to talk to the school social worker. Perhaps the guidance counselors at the upper levels would also have this information. We are in a position to NEED to know who the good doctors are, since we are often providing referalls to families; and of course we want our students to get good treatment! Good luck! :) MK
