Relationship Advice for Struggling ADD Adult

It's normal to feel overwhelmed at the start of a relationship. For ADDers, sometimes you'll have a natural tendency to overdo or say things that come across as too intense, and to become distrustful/depressed when you're separated from or rejected by people you care about.

Browse our ADD adults section for relationship advice for ADHD adults. You don't provide specific examples of all the struggles you're currently facing, but it sounds like there's some miscommunication going on.

Conveying your wants and needs at the outsight, and learning to focus and listen effectively can improve all ADHD relationships. Ask yourself, what are you really looking for in a relationship? Pick a realistic definition and work toward that goal.

Whatever you do (and I know it's easier said than done), don't be so hard on yourself. Acknowledge your mistakes, accept that you've grown, and be confident that you'll do better the next time.

All best, Joanna
