I'm in College and I Need Help

This is my 5th year of college (took me a while to figure out what I wanted to do) and I'm having a terrible time right now. Classes are really hard this year. I'm having such a hard time getting myself motivated to do my homework. I get distracted so easily and I can never stay on task. I want to do my homework but the actual doing part is the hard part. I'm having problems getting assignments in on time and keeping up with the readings. What can I do? I also have a learning disability and reading is difficult for me. I tend to get bored very easily, then I will want to stop reading. It also seems that no matter how long I read for, I don't remember the information. I really want to do good in school this year but I feel like my ADD is really hindering me from getting anywhere. I am so stressed out right now that I can't even focus. Everything in my life is totally unorganized. I feel like things are moving way too fast and I am not getting anything done. Can someone please help me with adjusting back to school again?

any ADHD teachers out there?

I want to become a special education teacher. Are there any adhd teachers out there that can give me some advice? I'm having a lot of problems with my speaking skills and organization, so I am scared that I will be a bad teacher. I really need someone to help me get to my goal of being a special ed teacher.

Need help

I live in a college town. I know that our university has tutors, people that will help you since you have ADHD. Go to your school counselor and ask if there is such a facility. I know a young person that goes to our university and was having the same problem. The learning center here helped her. I hope that your university has the same kind of thing. Best of luck to you!!

College Survival

Hello Rain:

ADDitude actually has a great online ADHD College Survival Guide that might give you some better study and organization advice.

Are you taking ADHD medication right now? If not, seeing a doctor for a formal diagnosis and treatment plan is essential.

Are you receiving any special accommodations for your ADHD? Most universities do offer academic accommodations such as extended deadlines, longer testing periods, note-takers, and more for students who are formally diagnosed with ADHD and can prove that it impairs their learning. You can normally find out about these accommodations through the office of special services at your school.

I hope this helps!
