8-Year-Old ADHD/Aspergers
My son began with a developmental delay..sensory integration, lots of OT speech and a special pre-K schooling. He did better with the autism until 7 yrs. old everything feel apart. His impulse control was dangerous to him and everyone else. He's been hospitalized 3 times for observation and they finally just 8 wks. ago for the first time said, ADHD. Prior we'd had diagnosis of schizophrenia, autism, seizers disorders and no one agreed. Once he was on the vyvanse.....WOW is all we can say, it's like God handed our son back to us. The Drs. now are even qu. the aspergers and said lots of these kids have sensory integration as well. Today he had stiffening and painful muscles cramps in arms and legs followed by heavy shaking and head pains, this bums us and our therapist out a great deal, as to the reguard we do not want to change now that we've found success in this med. and dose. I don't know if he is suffering seizers, or if it's a side effect. I hope it was a fluke and he can still have the relief of this medication. He is having two sided conversations, looking for cause and effect for choices he makes and is much more predictable. I can not believe how far around the world of diagnosis we had to go to get to ADHD, but all I can say is we are sooo grateful it is the best diagnosis, (verses metabolic genetic problems etc. and everything we've feared) and it is treatable! He is a super kid really focused on fish and the environment and wants to be the next Steve Irwinn, I don't doubt it for a second. thanks for reading.
