New To All This - Just Need Some Advice

My daughter is almost 5, and was recently diagnosed with ADHD/ODD and a little sensory processing disorder, too. She just started kindergarten. The teacher said she knew about the ADHD before I even told her, on the third day of class, just by observing her. I am worried about how she will do in school, particularly socially.

Do ADHD kids have trouble making friends, or get picked on a lot? She is not medicated, but we just started 5 hours a week of in-home behavioral therapy, which is helping manage the tantrums and emotional outbursts. I wonder if the therapy is more for me than her sometimes, as I feel they are teaching me to keep it calm, not let conflicts escalate, defuse, avoid power struggles, etc. All good advice, so far, as I think my natural parenting style is probably more authoritarian.

Any advice on general parenting stuff from you experienced folks out there? Time-outs don't work at all, not does taking away privileges. Our main issues are tantrums, yelling at her 2 year old sister, refusing to verbalize appropriately, shouting, and not following directions. Thanks......

My experience and knowledge Gained

I have a son that has lived through the same dramas of kindergarten and on. It is fantastic that you are starting early in the diagnosis so you can get to the root problem quickly. There is a big association between food and ADHD and I have found great success with removing foods with dyes and high fructose corn syrup. I have a great multiviatmen that has the following attributes: Amino Acids (found to be low in ADHD children), Grape Seed Extract (found to be beneficial for strengthening the immune system and helping ADHD, it is formulated to improve focus and concentration. You can order it from http://help4adhd.tyh.us It is definately clear when I have not given it to my son for several days. If really helps bring him into focus and helps him respond better socially.
