Caffeine to Treat ADHD?
I would like to try caffeine, specifically coffee, to see if it helps my 8 year old son. I realize this might sound like blasphemy, but my husband has ADHD, and I feel like he self medicates with caffeine. My son takes Strattera and can't take the stimulants due to a family history of tics. I regret that he can't experience some of the positive effects on mood that the stimulants provide and am wondering if the coffee can't fill that role. His doctor gave his blessing to try it and I realize it will be an uphill battle to get the bitter coffee past my son's hypersensitive taste buds.
Still, has anyone tried this? I drank coffee as a child as a treat on Sundays (really it was sugar and milk, with a splash of coffee) and his doctor said he did the same thing as a child at church. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Heather
