Need Advice About Adult ADD Medication
I was recently diagnosed with ADD (at the age of 37) and my PCP is adjusting Adderall XR dosage to desired effect. I took 15 mg and now have been prescribed 20 mg. In a month I will follow-up with my PCP, at which point, she stated "she may send me to a psychologist to be further tested" if the Adderall XR doesn't seem to keep me focused. I found that 15 mg only caused me to daydream more often, and it caused palpitations. I have been taking phendimetrazine 35mg three times a day for several months; could it be that I already have a tolerance? And, would it be better to refer me to a psychiatrist, who could actually make recommendations concerning the medications? (and prescribe them?) |

Who Can Diagnose...
Hi there: I'm no expert on the ADHD professionals who can assess and recalibrate medications, but you might find some clarity in this article: Who Can Diagnose ADHD? It explains the advantages and disadvantages of seeing a psychologist vs. psychiatrist vs. therapist, etc. I hope this helps! |

I need some advice
I am currently on 60 mg of Adderall and I am wondering if I should switch to a different medication. I have been on Adderall for 5 years but I don't really see an improvement. I think that I have gotten worse. I seem to get into different modes. A lot of the time I'm really tired and unmotivated but then sometimes I'll get these bursts of energy and I'll be really hyper and super focused on things. But when it comes to doing my homework, I get so distracted by everything. I can't stay on task and I end up procrastinating so badly. I procrastinate so much on everything that I need to do. Do you guys think that the medication is helping me at all or should I look for something else? Plus, what effect does a stimulant have on the body? |

Stimulants
Hi Rain731: There is some great information about stimulant medications and their side effects in this article: ADHD Medication: Say No to Side Effects The procrastination that you mention is really common in ADD adults, but perhaps your medication is not working as well as it could... I would first try some tactics in these articles and then, if you're still having trouble, talk to your doctor about a new prescription... How ADHD Adults Can Change Habits Stop Procrastinating! How to Get Motivated with Adult ADD Time Management Tips for Adults with ADD I hope that helps! |
