How do you make a successful transition to college?
As a college Learning Specialist and the parent of an LD/ADD son who graduated college successfully, I've had the good fortune to have sat on both sides of the desk :) From my dual perspectives, I have learned an awful lot that I can impart to others filled with anxiety regarding post-secondary transition. My son benefited from hearing of the mistakes students made where I teach. These mistakes, although not individually fatal, start a downward spiral from which it's difficult to extricate. Had these students had prior knowledge of the unique demands of college, preparation that could be done in H.S., and strategies that can make one an independent learner, they would have navigated differently, and most likely, would have had different results.
Because I am passionate about success for students with learning differences, I wrote a course in the interest of preventing college failure. It is called "CONQUER COLLEGE WITH LD" and received rave reviews when I taught it for the first time last semester.
If you would like more information about the course and/or a free copy of "25 Rules of College Success for Students with LD/ADD", please e-mail me at TransitionSuccess@gmail.com
