Why Does This Board Seem to Ignore Its Own Users?

I wish there was some validation when we post. I have quit posting here a lot, due to the fact I feel ignored. Does anyone else feel that way?

Maybe I am just sensitive.

I think it depends on the nature of the thread

Some people just don't know what to say if they haven't had a particular experience, sometimes if the post is more of a release then a question (I am guilty of this) then it can be hard to know what to say. Although I have noticed, especially in the last month or so, that some threads die rather quickly, and that Anni is quite often the only responder.

Given that we ADDers are prone to a) lack of focus b) overcommitment c) impulsiveness d) drama e) forgetfulness and f) tendancy to lose interest in things, it's amazing that any of us responds to anything...

So I would try not to take it personally (this coming from someone struggling to not be self-absorbed).

Stick With Us!

Hi guys:

Thanks for sharing your feedback about the ADDitude boards -- you're right that I'm sometimes the only responder to posts, but we're working hard to bring more visibility and vibrancy to the discussion forums here every day. We just re-did the homepage to feature new forum posts more prominently and we'd love to hear your ideas for making these forums any better. I can't promise that your wish is our command, but certainly we'll do all we can to make this a better resource for you.

Thanks again for commenting.

Adders

I have to agree with the following quote. Quote:

I have been on other forums and find the same can be said everywhere. I also have had the experience of angry responses to my posts. I try to be optimistic about living with ADHD, using my strengths and learning to let go of the times I am just NOT doing well. I wasn't diagnosed until 2004 when I was in my 40's. I had spent my whole life not knowing why at times I could actually be brilliant (where I thought I should be at all times) and other times I couldn't even pass as mediocre. I didn't realise then that my overly self-criticalness was a symptom of my ADHD, it didn't help me do better in fact it is very difficult to overcome. I am doing better with the idea of if it's a bad day, acknowledge it and let it go instead of dwelling on it. I am not great at it, but that might come...

STEW4AA: Sometimes life gets in the way. I find that I don't have as much time since I transferred to another team to respond, let alone to even get to read all the forum questions. I have two kids - one w/ADD and the other ADHD and work full-time, single mom. I have never been diagnosed, but boy do I think I am in one of these categories (maybe both in some form or other). I find that many things I do for my kids are becoming my way of doing things for me too! and that a lot of them work. Don't wait for responses, go look for them! You can find many suggestions thruout the forums. Many times I have found suggestions that might work in a completely different forum from someone who already tried them. If they work, woohoo, if not, I at least looked for and tried some of the ideas. That's one of the issues with ADD/ADHD, is that you get soooooo frustrated when no one 'hears' your call. I know, cause it seems to me that no one EVER hears my call even when it is blatent and simple. I just have to get over it and try another way. Sometimes it works, others not so much. Hang in there, keep coming back. You may not get immediate response, it might take a while. I haven't been here in a while, yet I still try to look every so whenever I get a minute. Whether every day or 1x over a six-month period. I still find something everytime I come back.

Know How you Feel

Hello Stew4AA,

I sure know how you feel there. One of my pet hates is sending someone (a friend) some information or a link that I know they would be interested in. And what do that do? Don't bother to send an acknowledgement. Very bad manners in my books.

But then I take what some of the others say, and that is, we with ADHD may or may not be good responders.

I shouldnt laugh but...

It seems ironic.

we ask ourselves why we ignore others like us. It seems thats the nature of the desease.

Soon to be diagnosed. 28 and need of help.
