The ADHD Bride

I'm recently engaged and totally disorganized. Anybody out there found a great wedding planning book? I need an ADHD friendly plan to execute this whole wedding thing. My anxiety is stealing my excitement!

Congratulations!

I wish I had a great wedding organizer to recommend... I never did find one that worked wonders for me. But I can pass along a few URLs of sites that offer online checklists and other organizational tools:

www.weddingchannel.com

http://www.brides.com/planning

www.theknot.com > wedding checklist

I hope this helps!

Find good people!

I second that, Congrats! While I didn't have as much trouble as you probably will, I highly recommend getting several bids on an amateur or professional wedding planner. People often discount this idea, but a good wedding planner can come up with a game plan, help you pin down a budget and help you narrow down your desires, wishes, and wants to a workable plan that is within your budget. If your budget is SQEEAKY tight, try asking a friend of your family, a very organized parent or family member, or a church member to help you get a game plan together. Also remember that who you ask to be your maid/matron of honor is a Huge decision as this role takes on a lot that a bride(especially an AD/HD bride) should not think about during the wedding process. Pick someone who understands the role and that you can depend on.

There are also avenues you can explore that are very specific wedding "packages." Often these are put together for destination weddings, but you never know! I had to plan my wedding in 10 days(I forgot to get engaged! HA!) but found companies online that had packages to pick from. They did the flowers, minister, cake, photography, videography, transportation, and pretty much everything else. I wasn't much of a picky bride though. I don't know how I would have handled it if I had a bunch of specific demands.

Good luck, and just remember, forget perfect, HAVE FUN!

How To I Do

I have ADD, have been a bride, and am now a wedding planner. I love weddings so my ADD hyperfocusing ability makes me good at planning for others not so great for planning for myself. Anyway, I love this book: How to I Do. Out of print now but still available on amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0060988169/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top I have LOTS of resources but whenever I need to zero in on an aspect of planning, I turn to this one. It's great for breaking it down to manageable steps.

If you can handle/like super-extensive information (I love it, but often fall victim to paralysis by over-analysis. I'd rather get more info than I need than actually do the task.), check out Wedding Planning and Management: http://www.amazon.com/Wedding-Planning-Management-Consultancy-Diverse/dp/0750682337/ref=cm_cr-mr-title Pricey, but covers almost everything.

These are my two "go to" resources whenever I need some support in planning a complex wedding or when I have a lot going on in my personal life. One breaks it all down, the other satisfies my quest to dot every i and cross every t.

Hope this helps and isn't too late.

This is what I used...

It's called WeddingWire...located at http://www.weddingwire.com What I loved about it was I could create a 'wedding website' talking about how my fiance (now hubby) & I met...and I included that on the invitation (the wedding website I created on weddingwire.com)

You can look at vendors in your area, and rate them after your wedding is completed...you can organize your invite list, 'stash' items in a workbook type journal--pictures of things you are contemplating on using/getting like dresses, invites, party favours, etc...links can also go into that journal.

You can even create a seating chart on there. Best thing is that it's FREE!!!! ;-)

I printed off the list of invites (I could import addresses to there)...and people could reply ONLINE if they were attending the wedding

If you have family members that are helping w/ your wedding planning, you have them log in under your username/pw to help you out with it.

There's also a checklist/timeline of things you can work with--we didn't have a DJ or a band at our reception, so I eliminated that from the checklist--and it just stayed hidden. That was nice!

It REALLY helped me...I wish I would have found it sooner than a couple months before my wedding though!!

When are you two getting married? Best of luck with it & Congratulations!
