ADD trouble

ADD problems? I was diagnosed with ADD about 2 months ago. I'm 20 and in college. I am taking some courses here at home over the summer and I find it hard to get started on any work.

It's like pulling teeth. I'm on adderall 20mg 2 times a day and that helps me focus and stuff to read but I find when I take it I still find it hard to start work. It's a lot of book work and math so even though I'm interested in it I keep putting stuff off and watch TV play games, and browse internet and I say 10 more min and it ends up being an hour. Next thing I know it's 8pm and I have nothing done. It's hard to release from stimulating activiites I guess.

Any tips? If anyone with ADD is reading this how do you get stuff started?

Adderall helps me focus but I still find it hard to start the task, it's hard to release myself from something interesting or stimulating like the internet, games, TV unless someone actually turns it off on me literally.

How do you guys release and get stuff started?

Ironically I find it easy to do house chores like clean my room, clean the house, on a whim when I want or when asked right away with no procrastination and with no will power at all.

It's just book work or sitting down stuff I just can't get started doing. Sometimes I'll start it and 10 minutes later I'm back on the TV.

I'm at home, not at school. At school I use to just go to the library so there were no TV or computer distractions.

In some ways you answered your question . You need to get out of the house when you need to read or do math so you can do it. I would take my books with me to the park find a quiet pench and I always need music on and then begin to study. It worked for me because I had no distractions of the house , family or TV etc.. It may be simply using the local library or the park to get things done. If it nice out I prfer the park becasue it was relaxing in it own way. I never picked a bench by the playgrounds or near the ballfields; and worked like a charm for me. especially from Spring to Fall, winter I would go to the library and since you can talk I got things done. Try it; let me know. how it works I have a course to teach nursing coming up. Preparing will be my nightmare so I know how distracting other things can be; and will have to write a paper before I do it. I hate this course ; but will somehow do it. (Judi)
