Tics (When Nervous)

My son (almost 16) has been diagnosed with and is actively undergoing treatment with meds, etc. for his ADHD/Mild Tourettes since he was 7 years old. One thing I have noticed in the past year is that he gets mild tics (opening of his mouth, etc.) more often whenever he is nervous/stressed -- especially when he is performing -- he is very actively involved in drama and vocal performances. Usually once I talk to him about it, he seems to calm down and they do go away slowly. Once thing I have done is give him some chewing gum to chew on and it does help, but when he's singing that's not an option. Any advice to help him with this?

Tic Articles

Hi there:

Welcome to the ADDitude forums! I don't have any personal experience to share, but I did want to pass along this link to all of ADDitude's articles about tics. I hope you find something in here that helps with your son's treatment: http://www.additudemag.com/search/keyword/Tics%20&%20Side%20Effects%20of%20ADHD%20Meds.html
