Caregivers Disciplining Your ADHD Child

Our ADDitude parenting blogger, Kay Marner, has a really powerful post today (http://www.additudemag.com/adhdblogs/4/3902.html) about a babysitter who inappropriately (and terrifyingly) disciplined her ADHD child - spanking her and then praying over her to ward off 'demons.' It's almost too incredible to believe, but I wonder how many other parents have had to clean up the damage from a caregiver who disobeyed their discipline wishes and spanked, hit, or otherwise reprimanded a child when they shouldn't have...

Disciplining

my son just returned from a 3 week stay with family out of state. My aunts boys are very disciplined and great role models. However, they became very annoyed with my son, as many people do, and even though I advised my Aunt on how he could get, which of course is a liitle loud, always energrtic, and very impulsive. They just could not understand this ADHD thing. They think I'm sure that he's just being bad . There was a lot of good that came from the visit but I'm sure they were all glad he left. I often have a hard time caring too much what others think, I get embarrased at how my child acts quite a bit, and often do not want to take him along to grocery stores, or anywhere really because he is very oppositional and I never know what is going to come out of his mouth. But you know, now i am trying really hard to change that about myself as a parent because not a lot of people understand, And if they never do, I dont really care, he's my gem of a son, and I cannot let a learning opportunity go by without me intervening and reteaching him the right way to handle things. did I get off subject ? sorry, that's my ADD..hehe..
