Yes there does seem to be a genetic contribution to those of us who are ADHD/ADD . Driven to Distraction was the first book I read about this and boy did lightbulb go off in mt head. I also think a person who works with ADD/ADHD adults or children are the best to diagnose it because many general practioner don't understand it. I found my first psychiatrist in the back of Driven to Distraction they were listed by state. I think the person who evaluates needs to spend a minium of two hours to evaluate you and really get into the diagnosis and see how these symptoms because they do differ from person to person impact your life especially now that you are adult you proably learned coping mechanisms that tend to hide the symptoms some. As afr as ameeting group that is a good one to ask ; but I don't know how to steer you to one since we don't seem to have on in the area I live. Many of your friends and family may balk at the diagnosis if made just to fore warn you. I have one friend who still doesn't believe it because I'm smart.
