10 yo Son is removing his patch when we're not looking...

I've googled this question and searched various forums and keep turning up Daytrana adhesive issues. So frustrating. He doesn't like how he feels on it. His grades improved when he was on it. His teacher reports he was more social in the classroom when on it. I observed he was more anti-social when he returned home from school when on it - did not want to go out and play. Started at 15mg, cut the patch down to 10mg. He admitted he removed it. I was suspicious when he bragged about how much pizza he ate at lunch. He has no appetite until dinner time when on meds. Any one else in this boat?

Some Ideas

Hi Samsgr:

I don't have any personal experience with Daytrana patches, but I wonder if there's a reason your son is using the patches rather than taking a pill in the first place... Does he have trouble swallowing pills? If not, maybe your doctor can recommend an alternative, non-patch medication like a slow-release capsule that he needs to take just once a day. You can watch him swallow it and have peace of mind. Have you considered a break from meds during the summer? Maybe a deal can be bartered?

Patch removal

Hi, My 11 year old son is also on the patch (pills we a nightmare) He admits that the patch does help him focus but has issues with the itchiness. He does not remove it since in his school he is required to only remove it in the nurses office. If he starts getting a headache he is allowed to go to the nurse and take it off. We are also using it this summer for the first time. He does much better socially and seems to focus more with friends and not bounce from one thing to the next. He still would prefer to skip it for the summer but behaviorwise, he needs it for at least 4-6 hours. We take it off around 2pm so he will get his appetite back before dinner.
