New Here

Just wanted to say hello before diving into all the threads here.

I've been joking for weeks now about getting diagnosed for ADD because it would give me more time on the LSAT (law school admissions test). I abandoned those plans, but took Adderall for the first time today and my practice LSAT score went through the roof. So much so, that it really made me sit down and think about what was going on in my head. While the Aderall was in my system, I had a clarity of consciousness that I had never experienced.

Looking back, I've begun to realize how my own trials and tribulations seem to fit perfectly with an inability to maintain proper focus. Even the "depression" I worked through a few years ago, now seems to have been about my inability to accomplish anything substantive even when I knew in my heart that I was intelligent and capable. I just could not finish anything or became bored with everything (except the internet :) )

So if I can squeeze in without an appointment tomorrow, I'll start the process of getting diagnosed. I look forward to conversing with all of you.

Thanks for being strong so that I could find you.

ADHD Diagnosis

Hi Grateful:

Welcome to the ADDitude boards! If you're even contemplating law school, I would highly, highly recommend getting a diagnosis ASAP. Not only can a diagnosis help you get the ADHD medication you need to focus and complete tasks, it can also help you petition for academic accommodations at law school (like extra time on exams and preferential seating) and open your eyes to alternative therapies like fish oil and healthy diets.

If you're looking for a good doctor who specializes in ADHD, I would recommend checking out the new ADDitude Directory: http://directory.additudemag.com/. I would also recommend reading the stories below so that you can arrive at your doctor's appointments with some critical info about diagnosing and treating adult ADD...

Let us know how the appointment goes!

Thanks

Yea I started the diagnosis process this morning. I have an appointment by the end of the month and the whole process will be done well before the last LSAT test this December. Now I just have to worry about them saying I don't have ADD.

I thought about getting diagnosed about a month ago for the sole purpose of getting more time on the exam, but I really didn't think I suffered from it. After taking Adderall yesterday and reading these boards last night for 7 hours (lol, symptom?), I'm positive I've been suffering from this since I was a child. It's either that or everyone here is writing my autobiography for me :P

Thanks for the links. I'll check them out.
