Brain Exercises - book by Amnon Gimpel

Has anyone read this book? It's called "Brain Exercises to Cure ADHD." I just got it and it is a pretty easy read so far. The basic concept is that he believes we can do exercises to strengthen the part of the brain that is smaller in a person with ADHD. I'm curious if anyone else has tried this. I am only on chapter 4 but it is very interesting so far. I don't want to get my hopes up!

No I haven't

I haven't received it but I bought the book Change your life change your brain. I first got interested after I saw a show on public TV with the same tittle. Basically it reviewed how certain areas of the brain work and what we need to do to stimulate them and what foods etc we should eat. The consenus was EXERCISE is overall the best thing for our brain and the WORST is alcohol and cigarettes. I don't drink or smoke; but I didn't really exercise that much anymore. I started do it and actually look forward to reading this book. I proably one of the first ADD person who loves to read. and will read almost anything I get my hands on. I love music so I find exercising with a headphones on. I never struggled in school that many do until I got in college . It wasn't that I couldn't do the work; it was I couldn't get myself to the class. I have difficulty with numbers. I think nursing school knew how hard it was for me to do go to class because they allowed me to go to trips and join a state nursing student organization. The ability to be allowed to do other things allow me to focus better. I found i like on-line classes as long as I don't have a specific time frame to be on-line. If i enjoy the subject I will be able to sit hours and type; otherwise I need to get up and move. I will lokk up the book you mention and see if I can borrow it or purchase it my next book excursion

Brain Exercises

Jenny Have you tried any of the exercises? I was looking at buying that book, but I haven't found anyone yet that said it's made a big difference.

I read the book

I have read the book and I felt like I was reading a book about my son. We have used many of the techniques that Dr Gimpel recommends. We have seen a definite change in behavior and he seems to be more engaged. Basically we do the games, chess or stratego, have him play outside and really keep him away from the TV and computers and electronic games. We did the word of the day which worked for a few weeks, but then we stopped. We will start up again in the fall. I have recommended the book to many of our friends and family that kids with ADHD.

Brain Exercises to Cure ADHD

The book, "Brain Exercises to Cure ADHD," will have a positive impact. I have a son and granddaughter with ADHD. If you implement aerobics, balance and collaborative problem solving as well as strategies to improve memory and decision making (such as chess), you should see a difference in 4-6 months. The key is to find activities that your child enjoys. They are not going to participate if they don't enjoy the activities. Our granddaughter tried ballet and she just hated it. We switched her to gymnastics and she is passionate about it. And don't forget praise and lots of it. Look for things to praise your child for. Full disclosure: I made a contribution to the book. If you need further confirmation, read John Ratey's new book, "Spark." New data come out every day.

Adults or Kids?

Are these books aimed more at parents of kids with ADHD, or adults with ADHD, or are they for both?
