Summer Activities & Supervision For Teen Girl?
Summer school class was canceled leaving me without a solid plan for my 15 yr old daughter with ADHD. We were able to find a "job" that would fill a few hours a few days of the week but, after 3 days, she was let go due to her dis-organization. We are looking to plug her into some volunteer hours at a local organization and I have hired a "mentor" to provide some supervision and structure duirng part of the day when I am at work, to transport as needed, and otherwise engage in worthwhile activities. My daughter would be fine home alone - but would be tuned into computer and TV all day. The "mentor" is a college sophomore with ADHD..and I hope someone who can connect with my daughter and be a helpful role-model in terms of dealing with the challenges ADHD brings. Sports are not an option...so I am trying to brainstorm a list of ideas to give these two young ladies a selection of activities as a starting point. My daughter is not happy about having this young lady here...so there will be that hurdle to jump as well. Other than reading, swimming, biking, volunteering, going to mall/ park/ movies/library, baking/cooking, chores, and looking for any community events/activities - any other ideas or suggestions? All leads appreciated. |

Summer Ideas
Perhaps a local theater group is putting on a play? If your daughter's not an actress, they are always looking for help with sets, costumes, music and promotion... Could she actually be a mentor for an elementary-school child with ADHD? A few hours a week of playing/babysitting that could foster a sense of responsibility and maturity... You said sports were not an option, but what about something like sailing that's not a cooperative/team sport? Lots of communities have great community sailing programs... Would she be into visiting local college campuses with her mentor? Also, your local community college might have some great classes that don't require much or any studying - ballroom dancing, typing, watercolors, whatever... I hope this helps! |
