EKG before starting meds
Recently, it has been suggested that doctors may want to consider doing an EKG on an individual prior to giving them stimulant meds because of a possible unrecognized heart condition. It is not that common but it is an extra precaution. Neither of my children had EKG's and most doctors did not do an EKG in the past. I was recently diagnosed and had an EKG done and my husband had one done because he had had a heart attack in the past. If your doctor doesn't think it is necessary, it's up to you. You can request that you would prefer to have one done.
Usuallly vision and hearing are checked and sometimes they have the child evaluated by a psychologist (if you went to the pediatrician first) to look for depression or any other possible factors. I don't believe a thyroid test is usually done unless the individual was exhibiting other signs that might indicate that possibility. And they do ask that the schools test for any possible learning disabilities.
Those are the things that I am aware of. But each doctor has his or her own procedures or policies that they follow.
