Schools: Public vs. Private for Children with ADHD

I have a 6 year old daughter in Kindergarten - through our public school district. Ratio is about 30 kids to 1 teacher and one aid that is shared among 3 classes. She does get special help for 1 hour a day, 4 days a week. She has ADHD with no hyperactivity. She is on the cusp of being held back to do Kindergarten over. I am thinking about a Montessori school. Does anyone have any feedback on Montessori schools for ADHD children or any schools for that matter?

Hello sherryy:

As you weigh the options, here are a few articles that might provide some guidance and guidelines...

Montessorri schools are great, they work at their pace, get to move around and learn to complete task! Try one or visit one!!

Schools

I think that public schools are better than home schooling because this is when and where they are going to learn their social skills. That is very important to me, but the ultimate decision is yours. Hope that this helps.

Yes to social, NO to public

I think there needs to be a seperation between home & school. Again Montessorri Schools allow for a lot of social interaction, learning and most of all learning to stay on task and complete things.

Look in your area and go visit some of these schools. I don't know if public school is the best because we seem to get lost in the shuffle and kids can be cruel. This is where I quit asking questions, quit listening and just tried to "fit" in.

I went to public school for a few years and it was torture! Our reunion came up and I told them why should I pay $65.00 dollars now for yall to make fun of me & make my life hell; when yall got to do it for free for years. Had I not gone to private school where the classes were small, I wouldn't be able to read and certainly wouldn't be who I am today!

Public/Private School

I have a 10 year old boy who goes to a Quaker School. I think this is the best decision we as parents could have made.
