How Young Is "Too Young" for Medication?

My 3 year old son was recently diagnosed with ADHD. I just finished reading the article about preschoolers and ADHD and I swear that article was written by someone who has been following my son around cause I swore it was him they were talking about. He is dangerously close to being asked to leave preschool. I have him in therapy once a week and the therapist is strongly pushing me in the direction of medication but I feel like he is just too young. I want to find other solutions but she is concerned that his increasing violent behavior is going to end up isolating him from his peers. Other parents have already begun asking about who this child is that is throwing chairs and kicking and punching the teachers and other children. I want to do what is best for my son but I am not sure what the best route is. I don't want to pump him full of pills and have him be chemically dependent for the rest of his life but I also don't want to deny him the chance to have a more manageable existence that may be possible with the help of medication. Any thoughts?
