Help!

Well I am new to this web site I am trying to figure all this out! I am recently re-diagnosed! I have known I was ADHD for several years. I was diagnosed as a child and my parents refused to treat me! I managed to cope and recently it has been more severe. I work in the Operating room so I have a dire need to focus! I went to the Dr and he gave me Adderall XR 10mg 1x a day! I am not sure it is working I have been on it for 2 weeks now and I pretty much am having the same issues. I feel a little more focused and clear minded within a few hours of taking it but that is all. I am unsure if I need a larger dosage? How long did it take you for it to start working? What does it make you feel like? How do you know it is working?

Medication difference

Hi Tonya,

You probably need the dosage increased. That's a low amount. Many people are on 30 mg. of the Adderall XR and my husband takes 60mg. of the Adderall XR once a day.

I recently was diagnosed and put on Vyvanse. I started at an average dose the first week and then my doctor increased it the next week. I noticed some difference the first week but a bigger difference the following week. I found that I could think more clearly and quicker, I was more efficient at work. I had more energy and was able to prioritize better, not getting distracted by things that were not as important. I also felt smarter and more confident. I could organize my thoughts better and I got a lot more accomplished.

I also found that I was able to focus better on other people and what they were saying. I even found i was more thoughtful of others, remembering to ask them about themselves and how their week was going. I used to think I was just a thoughtless person and needed to learn how to be more thoughtful.

My reading comprehension was better also. Which meant I could read more quickly and get the point, without having to reread it.

Other people may also notice differences in you that you are not aware of.

If you don't have a doctor visit coming up soon, I would call and tell him that you have only noticed slight improvement and perhaps he will change your dosage sooner.

Good luck, Elaine

one more thing

The medication takes effect the first day you are taking it. Straterra is different, it takes about a month before a difference is noticed. But if you are on the right dose of most stimulant medications, you will notice it right away. It doesn't need to build up in your system like the Straterra.
