Principal: Advocate for Students with ADHD or Just Arrogant?

I used to be an idealist! Many, many years of being inspired by Principals who aspired to be Principals who inspired teacher's to teach all children no matter what their challenges might be! Then one day, I came upon a principal with two degree's. A bachelor's and master's in exceptional student education. WOW! You would think that adult principal would be really empathetic and work along not only with kid's who are challenged with multiple disabilties, but adults, too! One day after returning to work after a leave, I was greeted back with "Wouldn't you like to go to another school"! I believe this took place after I told her I was ADHD. I have been practicing speech-language pathology for the last 27 years in a public school setting. Regardless of the normal hardships that people go through when parents grow old...The inevitable happens...however, My passion is to make a difference with the children and be happy and of course the children come first! That is it! Yet struggled for years with time management and minor issues not related to my profession. I received help from a coach and private therapist. I was truly blessed of all the wonderful help I have received throughout the years. People misperceived me in the wrong way, yet I am creative and smart! Fortunately this is the first time I am with a principal with a specialty in my field where I am unwanted. I have been working in this particular school for almost 14 years. I choose to not stay where I am not wanted by the administration. Quote from an ex-principal in my county at a much higher level...It is never the kids or school that makes you want to leave ....it is always the adults that ruin it for you because of their attitude. And I learned from other professionals...and their own cognitive distortions and ignorance...JUST BECAUSE YOU HAVE A DEGREE IN THE FIELD DOESN'T MEAN YOU TRULY LOVE THE PEOPLE OR SUPPORT THOSE YOU WORK WITH!!!! HOW SAD!!!!! I COULD SAY FOR MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN AND BROTHERS....WE HAVE COME FULL CIRCLE IN OUR DISTRICT...WE ARE SUCCESS STORIES...FROM KINDERGARTEN TO EDUCATORS AND PROFESSIONALS, DOCTOR'S...AND THEN WE HAVE A PRINCIPAL WHO IS REALLY STUFFY....I AM LEAVING THE SCHOOL AND HOPEFULLY WILL BE PLACED WHERE I AM APPRECIATED!!!! HER LOSS!!! I AM NOT A FIGHTER OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE VERBALLY ABUSED ME SINCE I HAVE BEEN BACK! THEY ARE NOT WORTH MY ENERGY...THANK YOU FOR READING THIS ARTICLE....NO NAMES TO PROTECT THE DISTRICT AND PEOPLE!
