Eating Disorder and ADD?
I have an "eating disorder not otherwise specified," and I think I may also have ADD. My main problem with eating is that I get very distracted when I try to eat. If someone runs the vacuum, or walks through the room, or there's any kind of noise or disruption, I can't focus on my meal. I feel like I'm not really tasting it, because all I can pay attention to is whatever else is going on. So for a while, I figured, "why bother?" and stopped eating properly. Now I've gotten to the point where I can sacrifice most meals to being distracted, but I still wait for quiet times to eat my favorite foods, because I want to be able to enjoy them without distraction. I've never heard of anyone else who has this problem. Since it has to do with being distracted, I was wondering if I could have ADD in addition to my eating disorder. (I've seen some studies that suggest eating disorders are related to ADD to begin with.) Could this be related somehow? |

Thank you for the article links. There's so much to sort through on this site, so I appreciated being pointed in the right direction. In particular, the article about Sensory Processing disorder was very helpful. I think that may be a more likely diagnosis for me than ADD, though I can see how the two can overlap. I'll have to investigate that further.

Eatingdisorder
I felt I had no appetite when I was taking meds until after 8:00 PM then I had the biggest crash and all I wanted was carbohydrates I'm sure it was the Ritalin that was responsible . Now without meds I look for anything with caffeine and a sugar intake seems what i want to get through the day and I want anything sweet to end the night. Since I stopped meds and hit menopause I am looking for anything that is sweet. . I am thinking about going back on meds and of course exercis helps to keep the pounds off; but doesn't decrease the cravings , I t is worse after I get home at night. Any suggestions would help. |
