Straterra Success!
Hi,
My 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADD-Inattentive Type in January. She has tried Concerta and Focalin, both of which made her feel angry, irritable, and very sad. Our pediatrician suggested that she may be one of the small number of children who can't tolerate stimulant based medications and suggested that we try Straterra. Being the diligent parents that we are, we did all the research and became frightened by the black box warnings that Straterra may increase thoughts of suicide. We waited a few weeks and hoped that her symptoms would just "go away on there own." Of course they didn't. With the support and encouragement of her teacher, our pediatrician and our clinic team, we decided to give Straterra a try. 6 weeks later, our daughter is a new girl! She is focused, more mature, happy, and doing great in school. She can actually make it from our kitchen to the shower without making 25 stops along the way to examine the dust bunnies or the cute lady bug or the plastic necklace that she found on the floor!
I am writing this to encourage other parents who might be thinking of Straterra to give it a try...especially if your child has had negative side effects or little success on stimulant medications. Take care and love to our children!
