Straterra Success!
Hi, My 8 year old daughter was diagnosed with ADD-Inattentive Type in January. She has tried Concerta and Focalin, both of which made her feel angry, irritable, and very sad. Our pediatrician suggested that she may be one of the small number of children who can't tolerate stimulant based medications and suggested that we try Straterra. Being the diligent parents that we are, we did all the research and became frightened by the black box warnings that Straterra may increase thoughts of suicide. We waited a few weeks and hoped that her symptoms would just "go away on there own." Of course they didn't. With the support and encouragement of her teacher, our pediatrician and our clinic team, we decided to give Straterra a try. 6 weeks later, our daughter is a new girl! She is focused, more mature, happy, and doing great in school. She can actually make it from our kitchen to the shower without making 25 stops along the way to examine the dust bunnies or the cute lady bug or the plastic necklace that she found on the floor! I am writing this to encourage other parents who might be thinking of Straterra to give it a try...especially if your child has had negative side effects or little success on stimulant medications. Take care and love to our children! |

Right there with you!
Hi! I just saw your post and it was like reading one I wrote! My 6 year old son was diagnosed about 5 months ago and we tried Ritalin and Concerta which worked well but caused horrible stomach pains, followed by Adderall which didn't work as well and caused nightmares, sleepwalking, irritablity and turned him into such a sad little boy. He would cry if I looked at him angrily, forget ever trying to discipline him! We made an appointment with a psychiatrist who recommended we try Straterra and it has been two days since he started it. Yesterday he was still a bit jumpy (he has ADHD-Inattentive type and was never hyper before meds..strangely enough) but today he got up for school ,ate breakfast and had a good day but got home at 3:30 and has been asleep ever since. I don't know if the meds are making him sleepy or if he's just not slept in so long that he's catching up but I decided to just let him rest and hope that this is a change for the better. Your words are extremely encouraging and I just wanted to let you know you're not alone! Hope you have a great week! -Jolene (and Michael!) in Virginia Beach.. |

Straterra Success!!!
My daughter is 12 1/2 and is in junior high school. She asked to be put on medicine because she could not function in 7 class rooms with 7 different teachers. We decided on Straterra 10 mg which I believe is the lowest dosage and she is doing fantastic. It has been day and night. She is happy and very successful with a high GPA. Something we never thought she could ever achieve. Straterra has been successful for us. |

Straterra Success!
Hi! I am so glad to hear two other success stories! Let's stay in touch with updates on our children:) Jolene, the two common side effects of Straterra are sleepiness and possible stomach upset. We give Grace her 10 mg capsule right before bed. She sleeps like a log and has no trouble getting up in the morning. I believe as Michael's body adjusts to the meds, the sleepiness should subside. Addmore2life, it sounds like you have quite an amazing daughter! I wish her (and you)all the best as she navigates the crazy world of "junior high!" Take care... |
