Daytrana Patch
Just wanting feedback from others that have used the patch. My 9 yr old daughter uses it and it works really well for her, but we've not been able to use the medicine for more than 3 mo at a time due to the skin irritation. We were told that the patch had been recalled and the "glue" was reformulated due to negative feedback, but she still experiences the same irritation that she had the first time we used the patch (last fall). Our dr says it is not an allergic reaction. Has anyone else experienced the same skin problems. We have started using her shoulders for placement sights as we ran out of safe skin areas on her hips. She has tried Concerta, Adderall, and Focalin XR and the Daytrana Patch within the last yr, and the patch helped her the best with her focus and inattentiveness at school. I'd appreciate any feedback on the patch and if we switch meds again, which med is closest in formulation to the patch? |

Daytrana Patch
We have tried all those meds too. We too have trouble with skin irritation. We too have tried everything for my son. The patch works amazing for him. We have tried everything for his skin and I found that using, although weird, hemroidal medicine (we use the pads) and wipe the area. Then we generously apply aloe vera gel generously to the site. The hemroidal medicine reduces the itch and the irritation. A bit unorthodox but it has been working. The patch is the most pleasant thing we have tried and he is happy using it. We haven't tried the shoulder area - maybe we should try that area too - it seems that the only area that works is the hip.

Daytrana patch and irritation
I am an adult and I use the daytrana patch and I get the same irritation. After I put it on the one side and take it off that night i put a little lotion or cream on it (Aquafer by Eucerin or A&D ointment) that has helped a lot. It still is a little red but it is notas irritated now that I do that. then when I switch sides I do the same thing. Now I do not get the irritation that I used to. It is more mild now. However, my doctor did tell me that she was told at a conference she went to to put lotion on it or some type of cortozone on it to and it moisturizes it. I think that the Aquafer that use has been the best and works very well. I know when I first started using it I called the complany and let them know. They were very recdptive and took all the information down. You may want to do that as well. They said when irritations like this happen hte more people report it the more they know and then they can change it. |

Daytrana patch - skin irritation
Hello, I'm new here, but am having the same prolbems with the patch. My son is 10 and we have been using it since September of last year, he has been doing quite well on it, except for the skin irritation. Have you tried shaving the area first they placing it on there? We tried that and it doesn't seem to irritate it as much. Also putting lotion on it at night helps too. I do have a question on what you do during the Summer months, such as swimming? |

Daytrana patch - skin irritation
My son (age 14) has been using the patch for 3 weeks, and we have had no irritation. We've switched hips each morning, and put a little cortisone cream on the site after removing the patch (it also helps remove the adhesive residue). This works MUCH better than the oral meds, giving him longer coverage - he had been through Adderall XR, Concerta, and Focalin XR. So far, I'm impressed. |

Daytrana patch
We have used the patch for about 9 mos. My son is 11. We get the skin irrataion also but the no appetite is the worst. He eats a little breakfast and then basically nothing until about 5pm. He has no desire for food until the patch wears off. He takes it off at 1pm so he can sleep at night. Is it true the patch lasts for another 3 hours after removing it? Also, he is still very disorganized and cannot remember to bring homework home. Any ideas???? |

Daytrana patch
My son has used the daytrana patch for sometime now. He was taking 10 mg then was brought up to 20mg. We had the same problem with the patch (ex. red irritated area, the sticky stuff not coming off). It did seem to work for him for a little while, then like anything else he became use to the medication. I noticed with the patch once we upped the dosage, he became extremely angry, having crying fits, throwing things at school, fighting with his peers, being very disrespectful to his teachers or any adult. He has always had problems with peers, school and behaving. This was worse then normal. He didn't react this way on adderral. The reason we put him on the patch was he was having difficulty swallowing pills. It was a nightmare getting him to take his meds in the morning. I did hear that Adderral was making a patch form. SHould be out in 2010. The daytrana patch eased some things in my son but i wouldnt call it a "cure-all" like the ads for it make it out to be. It barely helped him sit still long enough to concentrate. He still had all basic ADHD symptoms Then by the middle of the day, teachers noticed him zoning out in the middle of class. The end of the day is the worse for my child. The time where his behavior is out of control. He gets sent to the principles office more times then i can count. The majority of my emails are from his school, from teachers and principle. I have to say the daytrana patch is worth a try, but i wouldn't say its better or worse then any of the other meds out there for ADHD. Good luck to you and your children on it. I wish you all success on it.:) |

Daytrana Patch
I have a 9 year old son who has tried all different medications for his ADHD and for the past year we have used the Daytrana patch. There were times in the beginning that it irrated him and caused a skin reaction (redness and dryness) but from what the doctor has stated to rotate around the hip area. I also used to apply lotion (vitamin A &E) on the hip that wasn't being used which helped. Yes there was a time when they had a problem with the glue but that patch has been replaced. I also give him breaks from the patch on the weekends and give him the pills which also gives his hips a break... |

Daytrana patch
Hi, I am new here. My son is almost 8 years old and has been on this patch for almost a year. He has done great on it compared to the other oral meds we've tried. They just didn't last him more than 5 hours and they were extended release. I feel that the patch takes too long to kick in once put on. It takes about 2 hours to take effect. As you all know, that is an eternity in the morning with an ADHD child! We have to give him a Ritalin 10mg pill at the same time which kicks in within 40 minutes. He also has the irritated skin but alternate side to side and is ok. We have had 2 boxes of the recalled patches due to adhesive issues. Shire did send us a card for a free box. |

Daytrana Patch
I am a bit confused. I thought the Daytrana Patch was only approved to children up to 12 yrs. Am I confusing this with something else? |

Daytrana Patch
My 15 year old is using the Daytrana patch and we love it. We haven't had any problems with skin irritation. He alternates hips each day . It takes about an hour to take effect once he puts it on so we set his reminder watch to go off an hour before he wakes up and the night before he puts the patch on his nightstand so that when the alarm goes off, he rolls over, puts the patch on his hip and goes back to sleep for another hour. This way when he heads out the door to school, its already working. It doesn't help with his being disorganized but at least he remembers that he was given assignments at school and they are usually scribbled on a peice of paper and shoved in his backpack. They do make it home. His hitting puberty has been the big turning point for him. He is now aware of his shortcomings and we are working on ways to help him be self sufficient. He wears a reminderwatch all the time and we recently got him a PDA that he puts all his info in. This allows for him to receive reminders for everything and I no longer have to go behind him and ask or remind. Until puberty, it was like talking to the wall, it would go in one ear and out the other. His being able to recognize his shortcomings was the biggest turning point for him. Good luck. |

Daytrana Patch
Thanks so much for the reply. I am going to ask my doctor about trying the patch with my daughter. The only problem is she is going away to camp for 2 weeks, and I don't know if she will be concerned about the other kids seeing her patch. Anyway, you are so right about the awareness during puberty. I see the same thing with my daughter. Although she still needs to redirect her response, interactions, etc., she is definately aware of the changes she would like to make. Thanks, again |

Voluntary recall of 2 lots of DAYTRANA
I received a letter from Shire, the makers of DAYTRANA. They have initiated a voluntary recall of 2 lots of the ADHD patch DAYTRANA. Lot number 2750211 and 2764111. These lots do not meet their release liner removal specification and as a result parents and caregivers could have difficulties removing the liners. THIS IS A VOLUNTARY RECALL AND ITS NOT DUE TO SAFETY ISSUES. All of the Daytrana patches including the ones for the voluntary recall can still be used unless the release liner cannot be removed or the patches are damaged while being opened. If you have any questions regarding DAYTRANA including how to locate a near by pharmacy that carries the patch call Daytranacare at 1-800-828-2088 option 1.The web site for Daytrana is www.Daytrana.com. |

daytrana patch
Hello again: I previously posted a message about the patch and I recently had problems (not sure if it was jsut the batch or not) but this past month the skin irration has really bothered him to the point he takes it off. I called the manufacture to see if possibly it was that month supply that I had and they informed me to send a patch in. I'm hoping that giving him a break from the patch will help. I have also heard that the patch has to be placed on the hip or buttocks ( a fat area). |
