Which Meds Available in Canada?

Hello

I have inattentive subtype, and was Dx'ed 2002-ish with ADHD/LD(short term working memory) and later with social anxiety (stemming from depression from when I was younger). I'm currently on dexedrine slow release, and ritalin (regular). I find the dexedrine helps with time awareness and getting things done, and the ritalin helps with focusing. When I was on just ritalin, I'd get TOO focused, and when I was on just dexedrine I wouldn't get much done. I think I have a good balance right now...

but I've been curious about the other meds available, and am wondering what's available in Canada, and the cost. Right now what I'm on is fairly affordable.

If anyone could let me know what they've tried (themselves, or their children) and how you noticed it affected symptoms, that would be so helpful. Also cost would also help as well.

thanks!

Concerta

Hi,

Just a thought...my son (age 9) has been on Concerta for a few years. We find that he copes very well with this medication. His mood and attention has been much improved with Concerta. It is a longer acting medication so you only need to take it in the morning and you are good all day. I am not sure of the cost as we have a drug plan. It is available in Canada. Might be woth a try!

Strattera

Hi, I was diagnosed with ADD in 2005 when I was 37 years old. I have been taking Strattera for the past 3 years. It is a drug that takes a while to work. So they start you off at a lower dosage and work up from there. It may take a few months to see any noticeable results. I wasn't coping very well with everyday things and could never seem to finish any task I started. I was becoming very anxious, depressed and wondering all the time why I couldn't seem to handle things like everybody else. It worked fantastic for me. Everything got alot better and easier over the past few years. I felt a calmness I had never experienced before and my husband notice a huge difference. A few side effects though; I needed to take it with food or I got an upset stomach. I could always tell when I was late or forgot to take the meds. I also experienced some (heart palpitations)for lack of a better word. The side effects were worth the peace it brought to my life. I've been doing so well, I decided to try and decrease my meds to eventually go off them. My doctor and I have been slowly decreasing the dosage. The peaceful feeling is leaving me!! and I have since decided not to go off Strattera just yet . In my opinion, it is an expensive drug (about $146. each month), but it is definitely available in Canada. Hope this helps you out a bit.
