Ritalin side effects

Hi all -

My doctor switched me from Adderall to Ritalin 6 months ago. On Ritalin I have difficulty breathing, swollen tongue, and dark urine. I feel lethargic when I take my prescribed dose. Does anyone know if this is normal with Ritalin?

Thanks in advance!

Ritalin side effects

This does not sound like normal side effects. You need to go back and consult your doctor as soon as you can. Common side effects of ritalin are nervousness, inability to fall asleep or stay asleep. Rare side effects are abdominal pain, abnormal heartbeat, abnormal muscle movement, blood pressure changes, chest pain, dizziness, fever, headache, hives, joint pain, nausea, pulse changes, palpitations, rapid heartbeat, skin reddening.

So go see your doctor!

Dehydration?

I'm on generic adderoll, 4-6 hour, and I think dehydration is kind of severe. I feel like I've just run 5 miles pretty much as soon as I start walking to the train station. Is real adderoll better than generic? Any helpful advice?

Comment to DrAnn

I have taken Ritalin for 10 yrs and then had to switch to Adderoll because the Ritalin seemed to not have any effect anymore. I have been on Adderoll XR 25mg for 6 yrs and I can say that Adderoll has ALOT more side effects for me than Ritalin did. I have loss of appetite, really bad dry mouth, increased heart rate, difficulty breathing and insomia...needless to say I am looking at switching to something else. My son is on Focalin and he seems to be doing great on that and doesn't notice any side effects and he has been on it for 2 yrs. So I'll keep you posted with the results.

Thanks

Thanks for the replies. I had forgotten I posted this and remembered today ( LOL add strikes again) I think I might be allergic to Ritalin. I liked Adderrall better, but my doctor wouldn't switch me back to it last time I saw him. He said Ritalin has no negative effects on the liver, etc. and wouldn't hear me out. Next month when I see him I am going to insist on going back on Adderrall.

To the posters who asked about Adderrall - it seems stronger than Ritalin to me, so the increased heart rate was common, but it didn't make me feel sleepy and like crap like the Ritalin does

Sleepy on Ritalin

Although sleepiness is listed as a side effect, please note that if you are taking other medications (for other health problems) along with the Ritalin, sometimes the metabolism of the other meds gets delayed and there is a higher concentration in your bloodstream of the other med and sleepiness is also a sign of toxicity of the other med. Talk with your MD or Pharmacist if you are also taking other meds with the Ritalin.
