side effects - fast talking,tics

My son was recently diagnosed with ADD and this is his second medication. He was on Metadate XR and his side effects were elevated heart rate, nervous ticks and nonstop talking. He is now on Adderall extended release and he has the same side effects. Is this normal? The doctor wants me to keep him on the medicine over the weekend and document exactly what is going on. I'm nervous about keeping him on it.

Side Effects

My son started Vyvanse a couple of months ago. It is working wonders with the ADHD, but he has developed a host of tics since he started taking it. First it was problems with his eyes (blinking, squinting, etc). Now he is constantly clearing his throat and making jerking type movements. The Dr. swears that it is common for kids with ADHD to have tic disorders, but he never had one before. The Dr. is also sure it is not the Vyvanse causing it. If it wasn't working so well for the ADHD I'd pull it immediately, but he's doing SO much better.

tics

I had mild tics before I started ADD medicine. I'm talking REALLY mild, like once in a blue moon I'd have a repetitive hand motion. But since I've been on ADD meds the tics have gotten worse. They seem to vary depending on how much ADD medicine I take. The higher the dosage, the more tics. It happened on Adderrall and Ritalin, though it's worse on Ritalin for some reason

Many ADHD meds cause tics

many of these meds listed side affect the system so it develops tics. I never had any but then I didn't always take my meds like I was suppose to . If you are worried because the heart rate is fast then I would take him off it. A rate over 150 -200 is SVT and is life threatening because the heart pumps so fast. If he having tics then I would tell the doctor no more meds that cause them and I would try a concerta , straetta something that doesn't have so many of the side effect. Unfortunately alll meds can have side effects some of them are really scary other annoying; and it will a time of testing what works etc.
