Thread : Side effects again, now what?

Side effects again, now what?

My sons been on meds for pretty much 5 1/2 years. We've tried dexidrine (psychotic episode), ritalin short & long acting(agression issues when he comes down at the end of the day), adderall (psychotic episodes again), straterra (didn't work), ritalin xr (severe aggression), concerta (ticks), clonidine (sleep walking & bp issues), we just finally weened him off of risperdol for the first time in three years and he's doing well (no psychosis or agression and his ferocious appetite is calming down), but he is currently on metadate 40 mg in am and ritalin 10 mg at noon and is developing the tick again. we see the dr. tomorrow morning, I just don't know what else to try. He can't fuction in school or socially without the help of meds, but I'm really scared of the side effects. I feel like we are running out of options here. Any advice?

Dide Effects

It sounds like it may be back to the beginning only different or newer medication. I'm sorry that you are going through that or that your son especially is going through that. It's got to be really frustrating. Don't give up. Your doctor with find something to help or you may need to try a new doctor with different ideas. Good luck. Keep us posted.

Concerta vs, Strattera

My son is 6 and in his second year of meds and we are having the same problems. He has the side affects( nail biting, pulling on clothes,sniffeling and anxiety bieng around people and loud noises) We have tried 5 meds allready and am considering maybee trieng a non stimulant. Why did the Strattera not work for your son, is there any other thing that may help? I have ADD also and reciently tried Adderall and I experienced the side affects and they were the most awfull feelings in the world. I cant imagine my son feeling so wack from adjusting to meds. Any advice?
