daytrana and increased anxiety

we started my 9 year old daughter on the daytrana patch last summer with great success. however, we found that we needed to increase her dosage this past winter. in doing so, we (and her teachers) noticed an increased level of anxiety and loss of confidence. just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. we are not sure now if the benefits of the medication are worth it.

Increased Anxiety

The dose was increased but maybe what it was increased to was just a little too high of a dose for her. Call her doc and see if he wants to try to do something different. That is what i would do if the anxiety doesn't improve. How is her sleep habits. Is she sleeping or has she started having trouble sleeping too. Keep me posted. Thanks.

switched from daytrana

thanks...we met with her doctor and decided to try a new approach. we switched to strattera a few weeks ago with very mixed, confusing results. her is much more bright eyed and confident but very unattentive. she is also much more hyper at the end of the dose, which was never a problem before. she was diagnosed with add, not adhd. strattera also seems to really bother her stomach, a side effect i thought would be gone by now. not sure what to do now. any suggestions?

Increased Anxiety

If her stomach problems haven't gone away by now you should notify her doctor. Since with any med. if the med makes you feel bad you are less likely to continue to take it. I hope that you can eventually find the right med for her. I know personally how frustrating that it can be since I am ADHD. Hopes that this helps a little.

drugs and ADHD

There is no drug that must be given every day for years that can be a "good" thing. Further, none of them result in permanent improvement in brain function. The minute the drugs are stopped, the symptoms return. Drugs and behavior modification are older forms of therapy that will be replaced by natural brain exercises. The most recent research shows that ADHD is caused by lagging development of the part of the brain involved in attention, emotional regulation, decision making, etc. Brain exercises, both mental and physical, to stimulate that part of the brain will result in growth with no side effects. ADHD is a thinking problem and not a behavior problem. It is not because the child is lazy/stupid or the parents too lenient/strict. As the brain becomes more sophisticated, the symptoms and the need for medication are dramatically reduced and then eliminated. As important, this treatment empowers the parents. For more information, go to: www.tocureadhd.com. You will see some results even in the beginning and very dramatic results in about 3-6 months.
