How to survive nursing school

1.. Make sure you have syllabus somewhere you can see it everyday. 2. Make sure you understand your accomindations and be specific in asking for what you need. You will need a psychiatrist to describe your ADD/ADHD and what accomindations you will need. (There is a law that say ADULTS with ADD need accomindations and every college or school has this office and understands that) All your instructors will be made aware and they are not allowed to hold this against you or tel anyone of your classmates. They cannot grade you lower if a paper is due on the 5th and you have till the 15th to do it; they however can make sure class group project are always done when they are due because it is a group . 3. If you are an auditory learner have a tape recorder taken and used in class. 4. Set your alarm 15 minutes earlier than you need so you are always on time. Don't become distracted in the morning. 5. Make sure you eat breakfast.!!!!!!!! 6. Ensure you are sleeping. If you need a medication ask your psychiatrist. Do not go to class without a sufficent hours of sleep. 7. Do not hestitate to ask questions. 8. Try to find someone who is willing to study with you. (Make sure they are not ADD/ADHD so you both go off on a tangent that does not relate to classes.) 9. I find texts better than loose paper. 10. If given paper make sure you put in a folder so you don't lose it. 11. Don't psyche yourself out. 12. When testing donot read into the question. Certain things are not RN questions but question for higher educated questions such as CEN CCRN etc. certificates. You should not be responsible to read EKG's etc until you have been out of school etc. You do need to know BLS, CPR : but ACLS is not the beginning RN knowledge. 13. Math was difficult for me; hopefully it is not for you. 14 You can e-mail me at shadowtitan2002@yahoo.com and if I have something that you need I will send it to you.We need good smart, caring nurses. GOOD LUCK !!!!! (Judi)(not the judi talking about anxiety) I am a Emergency nurse for 23 years) You will find nurse who work many of the critical care area are ADD/ADHD due to the high energy, the abilty to hyperfocus , and the need to stimulated. School is the hardest because you have to do thing you find boring; but remeber it one class or two after you get your liscense it is your choice of what you want to do
