Nursing School Tips
Hi any RN with ADD got tips as how they got though nursing school, I am trying to go back (failed by a few points) and feel that my ADD made harder to get the 78% passing rate. I have sought help with the disability persons and student support services for ths time around. I also feel as they look at my re-admission packet I feel like the teachers will not think that having ADD will not ffect me because I had accomadations before. and don't understand Adult ADD in general. |

I am a nurse for over 25 years
When I went to school there wasn't any accomindations for me; however I have returned for my BSN and I do have a longer time to finish my paers then the rest of the class. I am not sure what real advice I can give you because I have a very High IQ and they reconized the fact that I could not sit in class. I was lucky because I had teachers who allowed me to travel to different states and I was the school president etc. What I do remember clearly that I had a real hard time sitting still especially to study so I would go for walks and then return back to the books. I still have to write papers and it is always hard to start. What i do is write the body first then write the introduction and conclusions. To keep focused on the paper I always have a radio on to drown out any other noise stimulation that would penetrate my distraction barrier. Don't pick out anything that you particularly hate or even really like so you won't be distracted by this as well. I ask my family to leave me alone and have my own area to work. Right now it really looks like a bomb went off and it stressing me out. Don't allow it to get this way. I hate papers so I always buy the text. I am to unorganized to run off paper and put it in folders etc. I have a copy of the assignment schedules always posted in front of me. And I never hestitate to ask when something I don't understand is presented. I work in a ED because floor nursing in med surg requires great organizational skills and ultimately I found it very boring due to the seeing the same patients everyday. I must give my hats off to this special professional. My favorite is children and I do allot of peds ED and I hate trauma at this time in my life . I saw too much needless killing of each other. The ped pt is more honest . When you graduate you will find your niche. If you are meant to be a nurse you will be. Remember that you are intelligent, and have a gift that help you empathize with the pt because you are ADD. Work with your strengths Good luck in nursing school. ADD_RN (judi) |
