Fidgeting
A lot of people with ADHD do some type of fidgeting. They need to be moving or doing something especially when bored or restless or trying to focus. My daughter would twirl her hair, a friend clicked a pen, my husband shakes his leg (and I find it annoying), some people need to doodle on paper while listening, etc. A doctor with ADHD said he keeps silly putty in his pocket so he has something quiet to fidget with. Try to encourage him to find something he can do that is quiet and not distracting to others. There is a book called, "Fidget to Focus" and it has a lot of ideas on different things individuals with ADHD can do to satisfy the fidgeting need without distracting others.
